The first demonstration flight was conducted at Narita Airport to introduce a drone for inspection purposes
Prodrone Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Shunsuke Toya), in collaboration with Narita International Airport Corporation (President & CEO: Akihiko Tamura), completed the application process with government and, on September 25, 2024, conducted drone operations at the airport under Level II(※2) in accordance with the “Prohibited Flight of Small UAV Law” for the first time at a designated airport(※1).
While the aviation industry continues to expand its capacity and demand, challenges such as labor shortages, operational and maintenance efficiency, and labor saving have emerged. This demonstration project was conducted with the aim of achieving more efficient and safer maintenance inspections within the airport, assuming the further growth in aviation demand in the future . Prodrone will continue to promote the safe and reliable use of drone inspections.
※1. The following airports are designated
as target airports under the “Prohibited Flight of Small UAV Law” (the law concerning the prohibition of flight of small unmanned aircraft over areas surrounding important facilities):

Level 1: Visual line-of-sight flight (Not allowed to fly over third parties)
Level 2: Autonomous flight within visual line of sight (No allowed to fly over third parties)
Level 3: Visual line-of-sight flight in uninhabited areas
Level 4: Beyond visual line-of-sight flight in inhabited areas
