“PD6B-Type3” undergoing demonstration experiment in Okutama

Prodrone Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Masakazu Kono; hereinafter referred to as Prodrone) will provide the newly developed PD6B-Type 3, which is compatible with out-of-visual line-of-sight autonomous flight, for the "Investigation and Verification Project for Transporting Materials Using Drones" commissioned by KDDI Corporation and carried out by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. On November 19, 2020, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will conduct a demonstration experiment (hereinafter referred to as "the demonstration experiment") of drone emergency supplies delivery to isolated areas in the event of a disaster in the Mineya district of Okutama Town, utilizing KDDI's smart drone operation management system that realizes autonomous flight beyond visual line of sight using mobile communications. In the future, we will implement this in Okutama Town, Hinohara Village, and Hinode Town during fiscal 2020.

Typhoon No. 19, which occurred in October 2019, caused roads in the Okutama area to collapse, cutting off traffic in some areas and leaving villages isolated. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has used drones to transport goods, but there were issues with the time required for preparations such as pre-verification of flight routes, and the cargo carrying capacity of the drones themselves. In this demonstration experiment, we will demonstrate how the drone can select flight routes in preparation for future disasters, perform round-trip flights of approximately 3 km each way, and transport materials weighing up to 10 kg. In addition, by conducting a demonstration in Okutama Town, which was actually isolated due to Typhoon No. 19 in 2019, we will verify the effectiveness of using drones according to the actual situation of the region. Prodrone will continue to cooperate with KDDI and support initiatives such as disaster recovery support using smart drones in terms of aircraft system development.
