Developed completely confidential relay technology for video data using drones

Prodrone Co., Ltd. (President: Masakazu Kono), in collaboration with the Quantum ICT Advanced Development Center, led by Chief Researcher Masahide Sasaki of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), has developed a technology that uses commercially available Wi-Fi equipment that does not require a radio station license to transmit video data taken by a filming drone to the coverage hole, which is a place where radio waves cannot directly reach, while keeping it completely confidential via a relay drone. In order to safely relay and transmit camera images with low delay in drone communication, where data loss frequently occurs, we developed a data loss detection and efficient key synchronization frame structure, enabled completely confidential data relay using one-time pad encryption using true random numbers, and demonstrated this through outdoor field and indoor experiments. By deploying multiple filming/relay drones, it will be possible to provide a highly confidential network over a wide area and immediately, so it is expected that this system will be widely used in the future for purposes such as monitoring important facilities.
